Being an entrepreneur / teacher / coach / community leader / professional musician (to say nothing of relationships and family outside of work!) takes a lot of time and energy...and I love every minute of my work!
However, it's hard to find (make) time to stop working (the work is never-ending, and I'm always filled with fresh new ideas that flow from me like a waterfall longing to be poured into useful buckets), and sometimes it's extremely hard to make practicing my violin a non-negotiable daily priority.
Most of the time, I'm able to uphold that commitment to myself and my creative musical project (currently my professional home recording), but I've been slipping up over the last couple weeks, as I've been prioritizing getting my new 'Alive with Spirit!' site and membership community up and running, ready for other creatives to join in the fun - while maintaining my regular teaching schedule, etc. in the process.
So, it's been a couple weeks since I've done my regular 1-hour daily practice sessions, and I'm missing it!
Today is a GLORIOUS, beautiful Sunday, and I decided I absolutely needed to get out of the house and GO SOMEWHERE. So Mio and I got in the car and went to the local arboretum - a place I particularly love for its quiet beauty. The weather was perfect: crystal clear skies, sun, and slightly breezy-chilly warm temperatures of 70 degrees F.
We strolled slowly among the trees...soaking up the Nature, noticing the special qualities of the trees (the three big sisters, the old dead grandfather and his wives, the whale tree with spout and eye, and the petrified wood)... appreciating that we could be safe and healthy together, despite the ever-present threat of maskless people and COVID-19.
Now, I'm home and it's TIME! I'm in my studio, ready to practice again. Non-negotiable again - one hour per day. Starting today.
Pausing to write this...
Now I will practice my '5 Pre-Pearls' as I ease back into the natural beauty of my violin (also from a beautiful old tree - maple) and heart of the sounds that feed my soul.
Read more about my process in 'Jennifer's Creativity Journal' in the 'Alive with Spirit' members area.
